Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced the termination of individuals implicated in an alleged “tanim-bala” (bullet-planting) incident, signaling a firm stance against misconduct within the agency.

The decision follows a viral social media post detailing the experience of a 69-year-old passenger on March 6th.

The subsequent search, however, yielded no such item. The online video showed the OTS personnel involved, attempting to obscure their identification badges.

Secretary Dizon, in a press conference, emphasized the seriousness of the action, dispelling any notion that the termination was merely a performative gesture.

“Kung akala niyo nagloloko kami, nagkakamali kayo. Kung akala niyo ginagawa namin ito for show, nagkakamali kayo,” Secretary Dizon said.

He stated that appropriate administrative charges would be filed against the dismissed employees, following a thorough investigation.

“We are terminating them already today...we will not stand for any abuse. Any abuse will be met with the same result,” he asserted.

The “tanim-bala” issue, which has plagued NAIA in the past, involves security personnel allegedly planting bullets or other contraband in passengers' luggage to extort money.

It can be recalled that 69-year-old woman, Ruth Adel, accused airport security of falsely claiming that a bullet casing was found in her luggage just before she and her family were about to board their flight to Vietnam. Despite security personnel stating that an x-ray scan detected a bullet-shaped amulet in their bag, a physical inspection revealed no such item. Based on the video share by Ruth on her FB account, and reported by GMA News, the family challenged why they were only stopped at the boarding gate instead of being flagged during the initial x-ray screening if the alleged bullet casing truly existed. While the Office of Transportation Security promised to address the issue in a press briefing, both the Manila International Airport Authority and the Department of Transportation had not provided any official statements at the time of reporting.

In other news, a couple and their 7-year-old daughter lost their lives after being trapped inside their burning home. The incident happened in Zone 2, Brgy. According to the Iloilo City Fire Marshall, the blaze started inside the Reyes family's home around 4 a.m., quickly consuming the structure.
