He is now detained and will be charged with parricide for the crime he committed.
In the Philippines, parricide is a crime defined under Article 246 of the Revised Penal Code. It occurs when a person kills a close relative, specifically a legitimate spouse, parents, child (whether legitimate or illegitimate), or grandparents.
The penalty for parricide is reclusion perpetua, which means imprisonment of up to 40 years, or death, depending on the circumstances of the crime.
However, since the death penalty has been abolished in the Philippines, the maximum punishment today is life imprisonment.
