An NBI official revealed that Martinez’s family had been in contact with authorities and persuaded him to surrender.

A relative of Romualdez had also pointed to Martinez as a suspect in the case.

Lt. Col. Chester Pomar, spokesperson for the Naga police, previously noted Martinez’s absence as suspicious. “Normally, if something happens to a loved one, a spouse, or a partner, you would be the first to show up and ask what happened. In this case, he was nowhere to be found,” Pomar stated.

Bicol police director Maj. Gen. Andre Dizon cited CCTV footage showing Martinez with Romualdez at 1:30 a.m., about 11 hours before her body was discovered at 2:30 p.m.
