Meanwhile, five passengers of the pickup truck from Tampakan, South Cotabato, were injured in the road accident.
In a report by Vicky Morales in '24 Oras' of GMA 7, the driver of the pickup truck has not issued any statement yet about the tragic incident.
Moreover, according to the police authorities, both parties involved in the road accident are still talking about how to proceed with the incident.
In the Philippines, fatal road accidents can sometimes be settled if both parties agree, often through financial compensation or "pag-aareglo." However, reckless imprudence resulting in homicide is a criminal offense, and the state can still prosecute the offender regardless of a settlement. Authorities may continue the case if they find gross negligence or if the public interest is at stake.
