A barangay kagawad died and his colleague lost both legs when a vintage bomb they found exploded while they were sawing it open in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya.

In a report by GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon on Tuesday, it was said that the 42-year-old victim, who is also a house contractor, died instantly.

His colleague was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and had both legs amputated.

Police investigation revealed that the bomb was found at a construction site where the victim was working. The bomb was allegedly taken to a bunkhouse and sawed open to find out its contents.

However, while they were opening the bomb, it exploded, killing the victim.

The Provincial Explosives and Canine Unit (PECU) will examine the parts of the bomb to determine what type of explosive it was and where it came from.

"Sa mga naka-discover ng ganito, Sir, kapag nakakita ng ganyan, i-report agad. Huwag nilang kunin o hawakan, huwag nilang lagariin. Hindi lang ito [ngayon] nangyari, dati sa previous years din may naputulan ng kamay," said Police Major Nova Lyn Aggasid, spokesperson, Nueva Vizcaya PPO.
