Josel and Jamaica had also planned to get married but they thought it would be a waste of money. So to save money, they signed up for Kasalang Bayan in 2024.

But two months before their wedding, Josel suddenly fell ill, which they initially thought was just due to work fatigue.

Despite feeling unwell, Josel continued his work until his body gave out and he was taken to the hospital. It was there that he was discovered to have experienced a "thyroid storm" caused by hyperthyroidism.

While in the hospital, Josel fell into a coma and had to be put on a "tube."

Dr. Jim Paulo Sarsarat, an Endocrinologist, hyperthyroidism is an autoimmune disease triggered by the immune system that can be caused by genetics, stress, smoking, or viral infections.

After two months of being in a coma, Josel woke up but could no longer speak, move, and remember nothing.

Due to Josel's long hospitalization, their bill reached P1.4 million. So Jamaica decided to discharge her husband from the hospital so that they could continue their treatment at home.

Due to Josel's condition, he is fed through a nasogastric tube. Jamaica is assisted in this by their eldest son, John Yldrich, who also prepares the medications their father needs.
