A woman died and five others sustained varying degrees of injuries after they jumped off a running passenger jeepney.

In a report by GMA News, it quoted witnesses as saying that the passengers jumped off the running jeepney because it was being held up at the time by a suspect.
The driver said that he was on his way to Cubao when the incident, which happened along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, occurred around 9:30 in the evening, Wednesday, January 29.
He said the suspect boarded the jeep in the Don Fabian area.

“Ipinakita niya lang ‘holdap ito amin na yung mga bag nyo’ ikang ganon. ‘Yung babae nanlalaban ayaw niya ibigay yung bag niya kasi andoon daw yung id niya eh inambahan yung babae sasaksakin baga kaya ibinigay na niya,” the jeepney driver, identified as Edgardo Cabiente, said.
The live-in partner of the jeepney driver was also among those who jumped off the jeepney.
“Palapit na ‘yung holdaper sa likod namin akala ko nasaksak na kami kaya nataranta ako hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko tumalon ako,” Evangeline Lugay, the jeepney driver’s live-in partner, said.
Meanwhile, a police officer said the suspect who tried to run away was apprehended by bystanders and some motorists, who then beat him up.
“Pagdating namin sa area andoon na yung mga riders na humabol sa suspek natin. Kami naman dumating kami roon inawat na lang namin sila kasi nga may sakitan nang nangyayari. Inawat namin mga sibilyan inilagay namin sa mobile yung suspek para hindi na masaktan,” says Patrolman Steve Fontillas, the member of the security detail of QC Task Force Disiplina in Commonwealth Avenue.

She joined the said "paluwagan" in November 2024 where she got one slot for P5,000 and eventually purchased more slots. Later, she sold the said slots to other people for P6,500 and where some of the packages were initially delivered by the owner, Socorro Marie Delrio Marual, the other remaining slots were not delivered because her child got sick.
Still in other news, a Chinese New Year celebration in Binondo turned into a tragedy when fire broke out on the 35th floor of a condominium. The incident happened on Wednesday early morning. According to the investigation of the Manila Fire District, two Filipino househelpers died in the fire. Around P4,500,000 was the estimated cost of the destruction.
