Kanlaon volcano has erupted today, December 9, around three in the afternoon.

The volcano erupted with such explosive force that the deep rumbling sound was heard in faraway barangays.

Residents in some towns and barangays also reported feeling the ground shaking similar to an earthquake.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or PHIVOLCS, the explosive eruption occurred around 3PM today, December 9, 2024.

The eruption also produced a huge plume that rapidly reached some 3,000 meters above Kanlaon’s vent.

According to PHIVOLCS, they also detected Pyroclastic density currents or PDCs descending the southeastern slope of the volcano.

PHILVOLCS has also raised Alert Level 3 in various areas near the foot of the volcano.
