James Deakin, a famous blogger in the Philippines, has shared how a toll attendant helped him as he was rushing to his son, who needed surgery.
On Wednesday, October 9, James revealed his son was rushed to the hospital due to appendicitis and that they needed surgery as soon as possible.
He then rushed to his son and reached the Alabang Zapote tollgate when the RFID sticker on the car's windshield failed to be read by the machine.
"As I was in my office in Makati at the time, and knowing the traffic situation, I made a mad rush for the door, grabbed the first set of keys I could find (which happened to be a freshly delivered test vehicle) and headed straight to Asian hospital in Alabang. As I arrived at the Alabang Zapote tollgate, however, the RFID sticker on the windshield wouldn’t read. The toll attendant asks me for my plastic card. I check all the cubby holes, cup holders, visors, glove box, and under the seats, looking for the plastic card. There’s no card. I also realized that I don’t have cash because I left the office in a massive rush. I don’t even have coins in some coin tray because it’s not my car. I’m literally stuck at the tollgate with no cash, an unreadable RFID, and no account card to scan or reload," he said.

While this was happening, James said his phone was going off as he was being asked how long it would take to reach the hospital where his son was.
"Feeling quite defeated, I explained the situation to the toll attendant, and without any hesitation, he dug into his own pocket and paid the toll for me. I was so embarrassed and humbled and begged him for his GCash number. He said, 'Don’t worry na, sir, because there are so many cars behind you. Just pay it forward na lang sir and get to your son. I got you.' As there were indeed a lot of cars piling up behind me and getting impatient, I sheepishly accepted his kindness and made it just in time to see my son before he was wheeled into surgery," he wrote.
By the end of his post, James revealed he is currently looking for the guy that helped him.
"Now that I am no longer in a state of panic, I want to properly commend this guy and find out who he is or at very least what his GCash number is. So I need your help. If you’ve ever been in any situation where a stranger helped you out without any expectation to be paid back, please share this so that the SLEX management sees it and this guy gets his due recognition for going over and beyond his call of duty," James said.
