News, photos or videos that arouse the interest of netizens would often go viral on social media. These viral posts appeal to the emotions of netizens, and in rare cases, such could also happen to ordinary people.

One example of a heartbreaking news that went viral was that of the statement of the Israeli embassy regarding the death of Geneva Lopez and her boyfriend Yitzhak Cohen. The embassy expressed sadness over their passing, with their bodies having been discovered at a quarry site in Tarlac. They also expressed their heartfelt condolences to the families of the slain personalities. In line with this, they thanked the Philippine government for their "relentless effort" in the investigation of the case of Geneva and her boyfriend.
