The actor opened up about his controversial breakup with Jennylyn during an interview with Ogie Diaz’s vlog on September 29. Nearly 18 years after their relationship ended, Patrick discussed what happened during Jennylyn’s pregnancy with their son, Alex Jazz, and addressed claims that he had abandoned her.
Patrick said that the continued criticism surrounding his past eventually affected his family, including Michelle, who is now pursuing a career in show business through dancing.
He recalled a moment when Michelle approached him and expressed how the online comments were affecting her.

“Actually, one day, my daughter, si Michelle, went up to me and said, 'Daddy, I'm sad. Because every time there's good news about me, in the comment section, it's all bashing, and they're bashing me because of you. Daddy, why don't you tell your story? What really happened between you and your past?'”
Patrick said he understood why his daughter wanted him to explain his side, but he also warned her that speaking publicly might not necessarily end the criticism.
“Sabi ko sa kanya, 'Yeah, I can tell my story, but I cannot promise you na the bashing will stop, or could lessen, or it could worsen.”
Michelle, however, remained firm about what she wanted from her father.
“Sabi niya sa akin, 'Daddy, it's okay, as long as they know the truth.”
Patrick said Michelle’s words became significant to him as he continued to see his family affected by comments connected to his past relationship.

He also addressed accusations that he had abandoned Jennylyn during her pregnancy. According to Patrick, he did not choose to stay away from her, but said Jennylyn did not want him to be present during that period.
“Sa mga bashers na bina-bash ako, they hate me so much because they're saying na iniwanan ko si Jen. No, that's not true!”
Patrick explained that he had remained silent for years because he initially believed the past should simply be left behind. However, he said the continued criticism directed at him and his family eventually prompted him to tell his version of events.
“But until this day, the words of Jen are haunting me, my family, and my daughter [Michelle]. People are hating on us too much, and I think it's unfair. That's why I'm telling my story.”
Patrick and Jennylyn began dating before their relationship ended in 2008. Jennylyn was pregnant with their son at the time of their breakup. Patrick later married non-showbiz personality Nikka Martinez in 2015, and they have four children together.
Jennylyn, meanwhile, married actor Dennis Trillo in 2021.
Patrick Garcia is a prominent Filipino actor known for his versatile dramatic roles in numerous hit television series and films. He shares a son, Alex Jazz, with his former partner and fellow acclaimed actress Jennylyn Mercado.
