Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto opened up about how they have maintained respect for each other despite their past relationship and years of working together.

The former couple discussed their relationship during the Grand Media Day of their Star Cinema film Always Yours, Never Mine on September 18 in Taguig. They were asked how they continue to keep their peace and respect after going through different chapters together.

For Joshua, the key is accepting that people grow and recognizing where they are in life now.

"Siyempre, you have to accept na people grow, 'di ba?"

"I think 'yun – it's respect and acceptance."

"So you have to respect kung nasaang estado ka na ng buhay mo ngayon, 'di ba?"

Joshua said this mindset has helped strengthen their relationship.

"So, ang laking tulong n'on na mapaganda pa 'yung relationship namin," he said.

Julia, meanwhile, said gratitude for everything they have shared also helps keep their respect intact.

"For me, aside from respect, as Joshua said, I think it's just gratitude for what you've shared together."

"There's something bigger than just, you know, what had transpired in the past," Julia said.

She also emphasized that Joshua has become more than just a screen partner after years of shared milestones and experiences.

"For me, Josh is more than a screen partner."

"So I think gratitude above all else is the one that's really going to keep the respect going," she added.

Joshua also revealed that he and Julia had known for some time that they would work together again, but Apollo's character became a major reason he accepted the project.

"And then, n'ung nalaman namin na ito na, 'yung 'Always Yours, Never Mine,' malaking parte ng decision ko 'yung character ni Apollo," Joshua said.

"N'ung binasa ko kasi 'yung script, sabi ko, sobrang daming layers n'ung character ni Apollo," he added.

When asked about returning as JoshLia, Joshua said they remain open to working together again.

"Yeah. Kailangan lang ng perfect timing, perfect project," he said.

Julia agreed, emphasizing that the material would also have to be right.

"Perfect material. If it's about working together, oo naman."

Joshua added that they would want to show audiences something new in any future project.

"Ayaw din naman naming bumalik na same lang ang gagawin namin, 'di ba?"

"Gusto namin may bago kaming maipapakita sa mga tao," he said.
