Sunshine Garcia has publicly defended her husband, Bulacan Vice Governor Alex Castro, amid growing criticism directed at provincial officials over severe flooding affecting several areas in Bulacan.

In a social media post on Tuesday, September 1, the former SexBomb member acknowledged the frustration of residents dealing with the effects of flooding. However, she urged the public not to place the entire blame on Castro and instead allow him to continue doing what he can within the limits of his position.
Garcia opened her statement with a direct appeal:

Her remarks came as Bulacan continued to deal with flooding brought by heavy rains associated with the southwest monsoon or habagat, with high tide also affecting some coastal areas.
A GMA News report dated August 29 said six towns in Bulacan remained affected by flooding, including Hagonoy, Calumpit, Balagtas, and Paombong. The provincial disaster risk reduction office also warned that water levels could rise further amid expected rainfall.
The situation prompted criticism from some netizens toward Bulacan officials, including Castro and Governor Daniel Fernando, with some questioning the lack of long-term solutions to recurring flooding.
Garcia, however, said she eventually learned that holding political office does not mean having unlimited authority to immediately resolve every problem in a community.
“Dati iniisip ko na kapag Politiko ka may power kang gawin ang lahat, pag may sirang kalsada dapat ginagawa na yan kahit sinong nasa pwesto, pero hindi pala yun ganun kadali,” she said.
She explained that Castro’s responsibilities as vice governor primarily involve legislation and resolutions, although she maintained that he continues to seek ways to assist the province.
“Sa posisyon ni Alex bilang VG more on sa batas at resolusyon ang trabaho nya. Pero hindi sya nag stop duon lahat ng makakatulong sa Bulacan ginagawa nya…”
Garcia also claimed that much of her husband’s work happens away from the public eye, including during late hours.
“May camera man o wala, umaga man o kahit late sa gabi hindi tumitigil yan mag trabaho kahit nasa bahay na lalo na ngayon nag uulan at alam nyang may mga lugar na naman na binabaha.”
She further acknowledged that residents have every right to demand answers and accountability, but emphasized the importance of identifying which officials or agencies have direct authority over specific concerns.
“Tama ang hindi dapat tumahimik, tama na dapat may pakialam na tayo at tingnan nang mabuti ang intensyon ng mga nakaupo ngayon.”
Garcia added:
“Pero sana hindi din MAGAMIT ANG ISSUE na ito sa MALING TAO.”
She maintained that Castro should not be automatically associated with every issue surrounding flooding and infrastructure problems. According to Garcia, he continues to request that matters such as roads and flooding be discussed and addressed by the appropriate authorities.
She also defended her husband’s character and political background.
“MABUTING TAO SI ALEX AT KAMI NA NAKAKAKILALA SA KANYA ANG MAGPAPATUNAY NUON,” she said.
Garcia noted that Castro started in a lower political position and did not inherit his current post. She also reiterated that she understands the anger of those directly affected by the flooding.
In closing, she asked Bulakenyos to give Castro an opportunity to continue working for the province.
“Hindi namin kailangan manlamang ng tao para umangat. So hayaan muna natin sya mag trabaho at gawin lahat ng makakaya nya para makatulong sa Bulacan,” she said.
