Toni Gonzaga opened up about the different ways she and her sister Alex Gonzaga were raised, explaining that their contrasting personalities may have been shaped by how their parents treated them during childhood.

The Ultimate Multimedia Star discussed the topic during her appearance on the podcast “Unshaken with Gary V,” where host Gary Valenciano asked what she was like as a child compared with Alex, who is known for her lively and playful personality.

“What was your childhood like? I mean, was it like Alex? Was Alex always like that? You know, up and about, jolly, making people laugh. What were you like?” Gary asked.

Toni recalled that their father was particularly strict with her while she was growing up.

“Very disciplinarian ‘yong daddy ko sa akin,” Toni said.

According to Toni, her father eventually became more relaxed with Alex after seeing how cautious and disciplined she was with her own life. She also credited her upbringing for instilling strong religious values in her at a young age.

“I think, nag-relax siya kay Alex kasi nakita niya kung paano ako naging so careful with my life. Parang he ingrained in me ‘yong word of God bata pa lang,” she explained.

Toni also remembered how her father would remind her to obey her parents and remain guided by her faith, especially because he saw that she was already determined to pursue her dreams.

“And then I remember he would always tell me about this verse kasi nakita niya na goal-driven ako, may pangarap ako, lagi niyang sinasabi sa akin, ' Obey your parents and the Lord. So that everything will go right with you,” she added.

Despite describing her father as a disciplinarian, Toni clarified that his strictness did not come from a hurtful place. Instead, she believed he was preparing her for the challenges that came with entering show business.

“Sinabi niya [ng father ko] na it’s a different world. It’s a different jungle that you’re going to enter. So I have to equip this girl para ‘di siya maligaw,” Toni shared.

Toni suggested that their parents eventually adjusted their approach after noticing that she had become more reserved, giving Alex more freedom as the younger sibling.

Alex, meanwhile, has built a reputation for her comedic antics and unconventional content on social media. One of her Instagram videos even showed her mother appearing to pull her hair after one of her pranks.

Toni previously acknowledged feeling embarrassed by some of her sister’s antics. This came up during a lie detector test she took in January 2024 for social media personality Viy Cortez’s vlog.

Her latest revelation offers a glimpse into how the sisters, despite growing up in the same household, experienced different expectations and parenting approaches that may have contributed to their contrasting personalities.
