"Tarlac heavily relies on agriculture for its sustenance and marami sa magsasaka namin ang posibleng marelocate at mawalan ng kabuhayan dahil dito," he said.

Brent further questioned whether the expected technological progress would outweigh the possible social and environmental costs.

"And this is just one of the many risks it poses. the 1.6k hectare AI-hub promises to be innovative but at what cost," he added.

The proposed Pax Silica project is a joint initiative between the Philippines and the United States that seeks to establish a 1,600-hectare artificial intelligence and technology hub in New Clark City. The development is intended to strengthen the country's AI ecosystem while attracting investments in data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, and other advanced technology industries.
