Vice Ganda has opened up about the difficult journey that transformed him from a young dreamer growing up in poverty into one of the country's most successful entertainers, revealing that every sacrifice he made was fueled by his desire to give his family a better life.

In his latest vlog, the It's Showtime host reflected on his childhood and explained that he was never satisfied with simply accepting the life his family had. Even at a young age, he already dreamed of experiencing more and wanted his loved ones to enjoy a brighter future alongside him.
"Naalala ko nung bata pa lang ako, ambisyosa kasi talaga ako. Alam ko kung ano 'yung sitwasyon [at] kung nasaan kami nung maliit pa lang ako. Nakikita ko 'yung sitwasyon at kondisyon ng pamumuhay namin [ng pamilya ko]. And hindi ako nakuntento. Sabi ko 'Masaya naman ako dito sa komunidad na ito, mababait 'yung mga tao, masaya, makulay, ang daming kwento. Pero hindi ako matatapos doon'. Gusto kong makaranas ng some more."
He added that his dreams were never centered on himself alone.

"Kaya nangarap ako hindi lang for myself, but for my family."
Long before entering show business, Vice already found ways to earn money through various side jobs. He joined friends in selling scrap metal and recyclable plastics before eventually trying buy-and-sell while in college by sourcing branded items from Zurbaran and Cartimar to resell.
Winning a singing competition eventually gave him the capital to expand his small business, allowing him to sell branded shoes and clothing. Some suppliers even trusted him enough to provide merchandise on consignment.
"Sa ganoong pagkakataon, natutulungan ko 'yung sarili ko at nababawasan ko rin 'yung isipin ng mga magulang ko."
Vice also remembered watching his mother work tirelessly as a caregiver in the United States, a sacrifice that inspired him to someday take over the responsibility of supporting the family.
"Nung nagsimula na akong kumita, sabi ko 'balang-araw sasapuhin ko at papasanin ko 'yung bigat na nasa likod at balikat ng nanay ko'."
Despite that promise, he emphasized that he did not immediately become the family's breadwinner because his mother continued working instead of depending on her children.
Vice also shared an important lesson he learned about being a provider. According to him, many breadwinners struggle because they try to lift everyone else before creating stability for themselves.
"Kasi diba kung pare-pareho kayo ng level, sinong mag-aangat? Para mai-pull mo 'yung tao mula sa baba, kailangan nasa taas ka."
He said this reality affects countless Filipinos, especially overseas workers.
"'Yun ang kwento ng mga breadwinners. Nananatili sila sa ilalim kasi 'yung pasan-pasan nila sa balikat nila, ipinu-push nila paangat at hindi nauubos 'yun."
Vice clarified that becoming a breadwinner was entirely his own decision.
"No one designated me to be a breadwinner. It was my own will to help the family."
Before becoming a household name, Vice worked as a telemarketer in Ortigas. He admitted questioning his future after surviving mostly on transportation allowance while commuting daily in formal office clothes.
"Nalungkot lungkot na ako. Sabi ko, 'Saan ako papunta? Ano nang mangyayari sa life ko?'"
His life changed after a close friend introduced him to a comedy bar, where he was eventually discovered. His first salary as a comedian was only P400, making it difficult to cover transportation, food, makeup, costumes, and other work-related expenses.
As his popularity steadily increased, so did his income. Eventually, he was able to save money and slowly provide more for his family by giving gifts, organizing bigger celebrations, and improving their quality of life.
Vice shared that one of the biggest blessings throughout his journey was having a family that never pressured him financially.
"Yung pamilya ko magaling silang magpasalamat. Ang hindi sila magaling ay ang manghingi. Hindi talaga sila nanghihingi."
He also clarified that he never considered himself the family's only breadwinner because his siblings worked hard as well. He simply chose to shoulder more responsibilities as his career flourished.
In time, Vice fulfilled one of his biggest childhood dreams by building a home for his family and convincing his mother to return to the Philippines permanently after years of working abroad.
Reflecting on everything he endured, the comedian said his greatest reward is not fame or wealth but seeing his family together and healthy.
"Ang sarap sa pakiramdam dahil nangyari. Being a breadwinner is never easy, sobra siyang hirap. Pero dahil ang laki ng pangarap ko at para sa akin importante 'yun, pinanghawakan ko siya. Kaya ngayon ang swerte-swerte ko kasi ngayon, okay na."
