Through a Facebook post, Paolo explained that while he personally uses AI regularly, he believes there should be limits to how people rely on it when expressing themselves online.
“As someone who uses ai EVERYDAY, hear me out! stop using chatgpt to write your status posts. We all know it isn't you,” Paolo wrote.
According to him, AI-generated posts are becoming increasingly recognizable, especially to people who know the writer well. He even pointed out that the use of the em dash has become one of the common indicators many associate with AI-written content.

“Especially to the people that matter,” he added.
Paolo also shifted the conversation to the creative industry, where he expressed stronger opinions regarding AI-generated visual materials. He discouraged people from using AI platforms such as Gemini to create posters, saying doing so may unintentionally send the message that artists are no longer valued or that creators simply chose convenience over hiring professionals.
“Don’t use Gemini to make your posters!! This is what it tells us: you were too greedy to hire an actual artist. OR, you're just lazy. I'm saying this because I love you,” he ended.
His remarks quickly circulated online and generated a wide range of reactions from fellow creatives, friends, and other social media users. While many agreed with his concerns about authenticity and creativity, others argued that AI has become an effective tool when used responsibly.
Filmmaker Quark Henares responded by saying:
“I’ve always used the “—“ and AI won’t take it away from me.”
Another commenter echoed a similar sentiment by writing, “Gen X girl here. Em dashes were my thing way before ChatGPT was invented.”
Meanwhile, another social media user shared a more balanced perspective.
“For me, it's okay to use ChatGPT to improve our ideas. I mean, we have free will but don't use it to the point where we just let ChatGPT do all the thinking for us. 🙂 What’s funny is seeing people use ChatGPT to win online political arguments but still can’t even verify factual information lol,” another friend expressed.
The discussion comes as AI-powered applications continue gaining popularity over the past several months, with more people turning to them for writing, designing, and everyday online communication. Paolo's post has since fueled a broader conversation about authenticity, creativity, and the responsible use of emerging technology.
