Instead of ignoring the remark, Maureen explained why she believes the conversation is relevant, especially for many women who follow her online.
The content creator wrote, “Most my followers are female so yes it is relevant! And periods are normal.”
She also pointed out that many women grow up feeling embarrassed about menstruation and are often taught to hide sanitary products in public.
According to the celebrity, this long-standing attitude is part of the reason why more open discussions are important.
Maureen further said, “Most women grow up being ashamed of it, we learn to hide our pads and tampons in public to make other people feel comfortable but why? It’s part of being a woman.”
The model then addressed the idea that menstruation should be considered too personal for public discussion.
She argued that labeling the topic as a private health issue only reinforces the stigma surrounding it.
In her response, Maureen added, “You saying this is ‘tmi’ or a ‘personal health item’ tells me everything and just means talking about it is even more important!!”
The post drew attention from followers who shared their own thoughts about normalizing conversations related to women's health.
Many social media users also appreciated her willingness to discuss a topic that is often considered uncomfortable despite being a natural part of life for millions of women.
