Yen Santos reveals why she stepped away from showbiz for 8 years

Yen Santos opened up about her 8-year hiatus from showbiz, sharing the challenges, realizations, and lessons she gained during her time away from the spotlight.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the actress spoke candidly about why she stepped back from the entertainment industry for several years. According to her, the decision was necessary because she had personal matters that needed her full attention.

"Marami lang akong kailangang ayusin sa sarili ko at sa personal kong buhay," she said. "Kailangan ko rin talaga yung time na yun para makabalik ako nang buong-buo sa trabaho."

The actress admitted that the journey was far from easy. She described the period as one of the most difficult phases of her life, saying she had to go through the process in order to find herself again.

"Sobrang mahirap. Kaya hindi rin naging madali para sa akin yung proseso. Pero kailangan ko siyang pagdaanan para mahanap ulit yung sarili ko."

Yen shared that there was a time when she felt she had lost many things in her life. That realization pushed her to take the time she needed before returning to the industry.

"Kasi parang pakiramdam ko, maraming nawala. So, kailangan ko yung mahabang panahon na yun para maging ready ulit."

Aside from the emotional challenges, the actress revealed that one of the most painful consequences of her absence was seeing opportunities pass by.

"Siguro yung pinakamasakit yung marami akong na-miss na opportunities."

Despite that regret, Yen said she chooses to focus on the lessons she learned from the experience. She believes those lessons helped her grow into a stronger and wiser person.

"Meron, pero ang mahalaga yung natuto ako sa lahat ng yun at sinigurado ko na hindi na ulit siya maulit."

The actress also credited her family for helping her get through the difficult chapter. She said they remained a constant source of support and acceptance regardless of what happened in her life.

"Family. Sila talaga. Kahit na anong mangyari, sila yung magma-welcome ulit sa'yo. Sila yung tatanggap sa'yo."

As she reflected on her return, Yen expressed gratitude to ABS-CBN, Star Magic, and Star Creatives for giving her another opportunity after such a long break.

She also shared how her experiences changed the way she views love. The actress said she is now more grounded and has learned the importance of valuing herself.

"Mas natutunan ko mahalin yung sarili ko ngayon."

When asked about the biggest lesson she learned, Yen offered a message that resonated with many viewers.

"Pwede ka magmahal ng sobra, pero sisiguraduhin mong huwag mawawala yung sarili mo. Huwag mong kakalimutan kung sino ka."

The actress added that while she remains open to love, she is now more careful and determined not to repeat the mistakes she made in the past.
