Comedian and actor Empoy Marquez looked back on one of the biggest surprises of his career as he recalled receiving an unexpected bonus following the massive success of the 2017 romantic comedy film Kita-Kita.

During his guest appearance on Your Honor hosted by Chariz Solomon and Buboy Villar, Empoy opened up about his journey in show business and how he never imagined becoming one of the industry's leading men.

Known for his comedic roles, Empoy earned the nickname "Ultimate Leading Man" after starring opposite several of the country's most admired actresses, including Maja Salvador, Cristine Reyes, and Alessandra de Rossi.

Despite the recognition, Empoy admitted that leading-man status was never part of his original plans.

“Actually, hindi e,” he said.
“Kasi nga nasanay ako talaga na sidekick ng mga big stars, ng bida.”

He explained that he spent most of his career appearing as part of supporting casts and never thought he would eventually headline a film.

“Pero 'di ko talaga inaakala na magiging leading man ka balang araw.”
“Kasi, sanay lang ako na 'yung kasama lang sa grupo ganiyan.”
“Tapos, 'di ko inaakala na someday magkakaroon ako ng leading lady, wala sa hinagap ko talaga.”

Empoy's career took a major turn when he starred alongside award-winning actress Alessandra de Rossi in Kita-Kita. The romantic comedy became a surprise blockbuster, earning more than ₱300 million and securing its place among the highest-grossing independent Filipino films.

The discussion later shifted to long-standing rumors about the rewards received by the film's stars following its commercial success.

Buboy Villar directly asked the comedian if reports about a million-peso bonus were true.

Empoy confirmed the story and credited Alessandra for playfully bringing up the idea.

“Oo, kasi hinarot lang ni Alex si Kuya PJ na bonus.”
“Sabi ni Alessandra, 'baka naman tig one million lang.'”

According to Empoy, the suggestion unexpectedly became a reality.

“'Tapos after three days sa bangko namin nung pag-withdraw ko bakit may extra one M na ganun.”

The revelation sparked laughter among the hosts, with Empoy recalling how shocked he was upon discovering the additional amount in his account.

In another report, Alessandra De Rossi directly responded to the perception that she is difficult to work with, explaining that she simply takes her craft seriously. The actress shared that she prefers to know a character’s complete backstory before agreeing to a project and has no hesitation in declining roles or even film titles that do not sit well with her.
