Mika made the revelation during an appearance on the show Hot Takes, where discussions centered on social media behavior, public perception, and the growing debate over authenticity in the digital age.

During the program’s “One for the Road” segment, Mika was given a challenge: either eat spicy food or answer a provocative question. The question asked her to name a celebrity or influencer whom she believes is performative online.

“I really think...ako,” she said while laughing.

Her response immediately caught the attention of those present.

“Kasi lagi nila sinasabi sa akin na performative ako!” she expressed.

The conversation then shifted from humor to a more thoughtful discussion about how the word “performative” is commonly used on social media. Mika shared that she has frequently encountered the label herself and questioned whether people are sometimes too quick to dismiss sincere actions.

“Alam [niyo]...sinasabihan ako lagi na performative. Ganito na ba yung pagiging performative? Kapag naging totoo?...Alam niyo meron akong Hot Take diyan,” she said.

Rather than viewing the term entirely negatively, Mika explained that certain forms of performative behavior may actually lead to positive outcomes.

“I really think ang mga tao ngayon sa mundo, kailangan maging a little bit performative if it’s going to make them a good person”.

According to Mika, actions that inspire kindness, generosity, or community involvement should not automatically be viewed with suspicion simply because they are visible to others.

“If yung pagiging hindi mo performative is magiging masamang tao ka pero kapag performative ka pala [ay] napakabait mong tao [at] nakakatulong ka sa ibang tao – I think kailangan natin ng konting performativity,” she maintained.
“Kailangan natin maging kahit konti lang na performative sa buhay natin kung magiging mas mabuting tao tayo. I think we should,” she added.

Mika also pointed out that many people tend to doubt positive actions when they already hold negative opinions about a person.

“Lagi na lang [kasi] kapag may nakita kang magandang ginawa ng tao feeling mo [lalo] kapag hater ka nila, ‘Ay performative, hindi yan totoo, hindi sila ganiyan’. Kasi meron ka ng view sa kanila [na] hindi sila mabuting tao. Pero what if nagbabago na? What if gusto talagang tumulong ng tao? Mabuti talaga yung tao?”

She stressed that perceptions of authenticity often depend on individual interpretation. For Mika, what matters most is whether a person’s actions create a positive impact on others.

“Kung ganong nakaka-impluwensiya ang ibang tao para maging mabuti, I think we should be performative if it’s not a bad thing."

Beyond the discussion on online validation and public image, Mika also revealed that she considers herself a people pleaser. However, after experiencing various struggles and setbacks throughout her life, she said she has learned to be more honest with herself and embrace her true identity, regardless of public opinion.

Mika Salamanca is a popular Filipina social media influencer, vlogger, and singer who first gained widespread attention online through her lifestyle content and music covers. Her mainstream breakthrough expanded into television and acting, notably winning Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition in 2025 and launching her debut music album, Mahika, in 2026.

In another report, Mika Salamanca addressed the most persistent and, as she described it, ridiculous rumor she has had to deal with—speculation about her being pregnant. The actress and content creator said she and her team often just laugh off these false claims instead of allowing them to affect her. She also pointed out that some online bashers could possibly be people from within one’s own circle using anonymous accounts.

Meanwhile, Mika Salamanca also spoke out against netizens who, according to her, tend to target artists in the middle of political discussions. She urged the public to focus instead on government accountability and important issues related to the upcoming 2028 elections. The content creator emphasized that energy should be directed toward real societal concerns rather than personal attacks online.
