During the mediacon for the film “Project Baby,” directed by Eric, the actor was asked about reported tensions within families being discussed publicly. "Eh sila yon, sila yun. Ako I'd rather na if we have discussions let's discuss this. Kung gusto nilang dalhin sa media, then dalhin nila sa media."

Eric said one reason they avoided conflict was because their family had enough time to prepare before Dolphy passed away in July 2012 after battling Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD for years.

“My dad didn’t die suddenly,” Eric shared.
“Kumbaga, parang nu’ng sinabihan siya na meron siyang COPD, he was 79. And he died when he was turning 84.”

According to the actor-director, the family spent years discussing important matters openly, which helped prevent misunderstandings among siblings.

“So, it was five years of preparation. And na-prepare namin kung anong gagawin namin sa pamilya.”

Eric also emphasized that his father, Dolphy, played a huge role in keeping the family united.
