Carol Banawa is mourning the loss of her mother, Cirila Banawa, who passed away after battling cancer.

The US-based singer announced the heartbreaking news through an emotional Instagram post shared on Sunday, May 17 (Philippine time). Carol revealed that her mother died peacefully in her sleep while surrounded by loved ones.
“Last night, our beloved mama passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by the people who loved her most. Our hearts are broken, and we already miss her more than words can ever express,” Carol wrote.

The “Iingatan Ka” singer remembered her mother as a warm and selfless woman whose faith never wavered despite life’s hardships.

“We will miss the way she could light up a room simply with her presence. We will miss her laughter, her stories, her warmth, and the love she gave so freely to everyone around her,” she shared.
“She had one of the kindest hearts — humble, generous, selfless, and always thinking of others before herself. No matter what she went through, her trust and faith in God never wavered,” she added.
Carol also found comfort in believing that her mother is now reunited with her late husband and son, who both passed away years ago.
“But now, Mama, you finally get to rest. Now, you get to be with Papa and Kuya again — the two people you loved and missed so dearly,” Carol wrote.
“So this is not goodbye. Until we all see each other again. Please give Papa and Kuya the biggest hug from all of us. We love you so much, Mama. Forever and always,” she continued.
Before her mother’s passing, Carol had openly shared the pain of seeing her condition worsen due to cancer.
“I never thought I would see you in this state. You were always so vibrant, so kikay — always wanting to look your best,” she recalled.
“And now, watching you slowly waste away as the cancer takes over your body is one of the most painful things we have ever had to endure,” she added.
Several celebrities, including Jolina Magdangal, Angeline Quinto, and Karylle, expressed condolences to Carol and her family.
“Condolence, mare. Will pray for Tita’s soul,” Jolina commented.
“My deepest condolences, Carol,” Angeline wrote.
“She was a wonderful, wonderful person. Our deepest condolences and prayers,” Karylle added.
Carol Banawa is a Filipina singer, actress, and healthcare professional who rose to fame in the Philippines through the youth-oriented show Ang TV and hits like "Iingatan Ka" and "Bakit 'Di Totohanin." Now based in the United States, she transitioned from full-time entertainment to medical care, successfully earning her Master of Science in Nursing degree.
