The legal action, which involves allegations of inappropriate conduct and workplace harassment, was submitted on Wednesday, May 13, at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
Accompanied by her legal representative, Atty. Aloi Renz P. Santos of APS Law, the journalist, known formally as Athena Mae D. Imperial-Rodriguez, personally appeared to submit her affidavit.
According to a report by GMA News Online, her camp has chosen to remain tight-lipped about the specific merits of the case to protect the integrity of the ongoing legal process and the rights of their client.

In an official statement, Atty. Santos underscored the broader significance of his client's decision.
“Ms. Imperial-Rodriguez comes forward not only for herself, but also as an advocate for those who cannot yet speak for themselves,” the lawyer stated.
He added that Athena believes such incidents should never be “ignored, minimized, or tolerated in any workplace, profession, or industry.”
Athena, who first rose to national fame as Miss Philippines Earth 2011, shared that the path to the prosecutor's office was paved with careful thought.
“This was not an easy decision. It took time, reflection, and support from the people closest to me before I found the courage to come forward,” she explained.
She emphasized that her voice is a representation of many others who are still afraid to speak up.
While the legal battle begins, Athena has urged the public to refrain from speculation.
“Out of respect for the ongoing proceedings, I will refrain from discussing further details and ask the public to allow the proper authorities to do their work without speculation or prejudgment,” she noted.
The case has already garnered support from various sectors, including women's rights advocates who praised the journalist's bravery.
Amidst the tension-filled atmosphere at the Senate and other national headlines, Athena’s move serves as a humanized reminder of the struggles faced by professionals in high-pressure environments.
She concluded her statement with a message of hope, aiming for the development of “safer spaces and greater accountability” for everyone in the industry.
As of this writing, Nico, who has been away from the public eye since reports surfaced in 2025, has yet to issue an official response.

There have been many cases of celebrities filing complaints against various other individuals. One on them is Andrew Muhlach, who announced that law enforcement has successfully tracked down the individuals suspected of breaking into his vehicle. Following the advice of investigators, the actor has moved forward with official legal proceedings against those involved in the crime. The star noted that his international and local travel documents were retrieved after being found abandoned in a nearby sewer. Despite the recovery of his passports, several high-value items, such as his suitcases and a designer bag, have yet to be found.
Another of such celebrity is Rhian Ramos, who initiated both criminal and civil litigation against parties responsible for publishing malicious rumors about her. Her legal representative, Lorna Kapunan, confirmed that the primary originators of the fabricated stories have been located and identified. The celebrity’s legal team is actively tracking social media users who continue to amplify and share the harmful misinformation. In a statement, her lawyer reminded the public to uphold the honor of women and avoid participating in character assassination online.
