In his statement, the senator stressed his identity and duty as a Filipino and his belief in government responsibility.

“At the end of the day, I am a Filipino, President Marcos Jr. is a Filipino, and he is our president. So I think I deserve some support coming from this government,” he said.

He further emphasized that protecting citizens is part of the government’s duty, expanding his call beyond his personal situation.

“Trabaho naman talaga ng gobyerno 'yan na protektahan 'yung kaniyang mga citizens. Hindi lang ito para sa akin, para sa lahat ng Pilipino ito... We deserve the support of this government,” he added.

Following these remarks, Gutierrez posted a strong response questioning the appeal for public sympathy. Her statement immediately gained traction online due to its direct reference to past issues connected to the anti-drug campaign.

“Woooow now he’s saying he’s a Filipino and he needs our support. What about all the Filipinos and families that were victims of your EJK?” Gutierrez wrote.

She also stressed the importance of accountability and justice for those affected.

“They deserve justice,” she added.
“The Filipino people deserve better,” she continued.

The exchange quickly circulated on social media, with users divided in their reactions. Some praised Gutierrez for speaking out, while others defended the senator’s remarks and his call for government backing.

The issue is tied to ongoing discussions surrounding the ICC warrant and the controversial anti-drug operations implemented during the previous administration, which continue to spark debate among different sectors of society.
