Veteran actress Jodi Sta. Maria shared heartfelt admiration for her co-star Sanya Lopez as she discussed their upcoming film Midnight Girls, set to premiere on May 13.

During her guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Jodi described the film as a powerful story centered on four women navigating life and survival in Japan. According to her, the narrative explores their struggles, sacrifices, and the identities they adopt just to endure difficult circumstances.
“Makikita mo rito 'yung kanilang buhay, 'yung kanilang istorya, 'yung sakripisyo na kailangan nilang gawin, 'yung pagbibihis nila ng iba't ibang pagkatao para lamang lumaban at makalaban,” she shared.
To prepare for their roles, Jodi revealed that she and her co-stars underwent an immersion experience in a bar in Nagoya. There, they interacted with real customers who were unaware that they were actresses.

“It is important for us, doon sa character namin na truly maintindihan 'yung lalim ng pinaghuhugutan, 'yung pinanggagalingan ng mga babae, 'yung mga istorya na ilalahad namin or 'yung mga pino-portray namin. So part doon 'yung immersion, Tito Boy. So kailangan naming pumunta sa isang omise. Hindi alam ng mga client, ng mga Hapon. Ang iniisip lang nila, ang pakilala sa amin ay kami mga bagong salta,” she explained.
She added that fully committing to their roles required them to entertain guests through singing, dancing, and conversation.
“You just have to do whatever, just do whatever to make them happy. You just entertain. You sing, you dance, you make kuwento, basta kailangan maaliw sila sa'yo,” she said.
Beyond the demanding preparation, Jodi also expressed sincere appreciation for Sanya.
“I super love her. I really vocalize my appreciation sa babaeng 'to,” she said.
“Alam mo, hindi ka lang magaling, napakamabuti mo pang tao,” she added.
Jodi Sta. Maria is an International Emmy-nominated Filipino actress celebrated for her versatile roles in iconic series like Be Careful With My Heart and the award-winning The Broken Marriage Vow. She described this step as a long-awaited milestone in her personal and academic journey after experiencing several delays and setbacks. The program will include subjects such as Family Dynamics and Mental Health, Child Care and Adolescent Development, and Adulthood and Aging. Jodi also clarified that pursuing higher education does not mean she is stepping away from her acting career.
Meanwhile, Jodi Sta. Maria also took to social media to express her concern over the ongoing US–Israel–Iran conflict, highlighting the human cost of war. She stressed that it is usually ordinary people who suffer the most during times of violence and unrest. The actress specifically voiced concern for Filipinos living in the Middle East amid rising tensions. In her message, she offered prayers for safety, clarity, and peace for all those affected by the situation.
