Rikki Mae Davao, daughter of actors Jackie Lou Blanco and Ricky Davao, opened up about her journey of choosing a different path despite growing up in a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry. Instead of immediately entering showbiz, she pursued a degree in Psychology and built a career outside the spotlight.

Early in her professional life, Rikki focused on education, where she discovered her passion for working with children.

“Nakakatawa kasi I grew up, most of my family is in the industry or somewhere around it,” she told PUSH BETS host Gary Ann Lastrilla.

“Pero nung nag-graduate na ako, hindi, sabi ko iba ‘yung gagawin ko kasi gusto ko maiba,” she added.

“Dati I was actually a preschool teacher. I think mga five years din,” she said.
“After being a preschool teacher, I entered corporate. Nag-human resources ako,” she continued.
“Sa family ko, hindi nila maintindihan. ‘Ha, may office ka? Anong ginagawa sa office?’” she recalled.

She shared that her early career was driven by her natural love for children and hands-on experience in education.

“I’ve just always been drawn to kids. Mahilig ako sa bata talaga,” she said.
“I took an internship at a preschool and nag-dire-diretso na dun,” she added.

Despite building a stable career, Rikki said the pandemic became a moment of reflection that changed her direction.

“Nung 2020, siyempre pandemic, hindi ko na matigil ‘yung gumaganun sa utak ko na I’ve always wanted to try it,” she said.
“I’ve always been interested, but I think wala lang akong confidence to try,” she added.
“So dun lang ako nag-decide na I think I really want to try showbiz,” she continued.

When she finally shared her decision, her family showed full support and understanding of her evolving interests.

“Go lang, go lang sila,” she said.
“They weren’t surprised anymore kasi nakikita nila na may pasundot-sundot na gusto kong ganito,” she added.

Rikki also admitted the pressure of coming from two prominent entertainment lineages, but said it has always been part of her reality.
