The rockstar characterized the incident not as a suppression of speech, but as a necessary response to "disrespectful" behavior during a sacred moment for the band.

The confrontation, which has since gone viral, took place while the group was honoring their late bassist, Mon, who passed away in late 2022.

According to Basti, the interruption occurred at the exact moment the band was paying their respects to their departed colleague.

He expressed frustration that a few individuals chose that specific time to shout political remarks and profanities, effectively shattering the solemnity of the tribute.

"That was bastos. Simple as that. It was bastos. Tapos, " Basti stated in a video message posted on his social media account.

He explained that the band’s primary goal is to bring people together and provide a space for joy, rather than serving as a platform for political division.

He noted that the outburst was particularly painful because it took away from the memory of a person who was a vital part of their musical family.

The viral footage captured an audience member shouting expletives related to the current administration.

In response, Basti told the individual that the venue was for "rock n’ roll" and entertainment, eventually instructing security to bring the person out after the shouting persisted.

He argued that while freedom of speech is important, there is a proper time and place for it, and a memorial tribute on stage is not one of them.

Basti also criticized those who are currently sharing the clip to fuel political arguments online.

He warned that the digital space is often designed to foster hatred and separation among Filipinos.

He reminded his followers that at the end of the day, citizens must rely on each other for support rather than the political figures who are the subject of these heated debates.

Currently, the legendary rock group is in the midst of a highly anticipated reunion tour across the Philippines.

Despite the recent controversy, the band remains committed to finishing their series of shows, with their final performance scheduled to take place in Cebu later this month.

Born in 1973, Basti Artadi is a versatile Filipino performer, songwriter, and actor most famous for fronting the iconic rock group Wolfgang. His career includes stints with the band Lokomotiv and various musical projects like Plan of Fools and Brain Salad. Beyond the recording studio, the veteran singer has also showcased his talent on the theater stage in productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and American Idiot.
