International theater icon Lea Salonga recently shared an unexpected detail about how she prepares before stepping on stage, revealing that BTS has become part of her pre-show ritual.

In an interview with CNA, the Tony Award-winning performer said she listened to the K-pop group just before performing in Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular at the Sands Theatre in Singapore. Her routine even included watching a livestream tied to the group’s latest release.

"So last weekend BTS's album, Arirang, just dropped," Lea said.
"And our tour manager [who is] sitting over there is also a massive fan."

She explained that listening to BTS has become a consistent way to reset her mind before a performance.

"I just listen to their music all the time anyway," she said.
"It's a great way to erase my head."

Lea also shared that her admiration for the group began during the pandemic.

"I found them over the pandemic, and they just brought me so much joy, so I stuck with them," she recalled.

Ahead of one of her recent shows, Lea went the extra mile to make time for BTS’s comeback livestream on Netflix.

"Last weekend, they had a Netflix drop," she said.
"It started at 7 o'clock, my show was at 8pm."

To make it work, she adjusted her usual routine.

"I moved everything back by 15 minutes so that I could end right as the show was about to start," Lea revealed.

"It was important and I have priorities."

According to Lea, the experience gave her a noticeable boost right before going on stage.

"The minute the show ended, I got up my chair, marched on stage and started doing my own show," she said.
"I had so much adrenaline and happiness," she added.
"I had the dopamine."

Lea Salonga (born February 22, 1971) is a 55-year-old Filipina Broadway legend and "Disney Legend," famous for her Tony-winning role in Miss Saigon and as the singing voice of Jasmine and Mulan. Born in Manila to Feliciano and Maria Ligaya Salonga, she has a conductor brother, Gerard, and a 19-year-old child, Nic, with her former husband, Robert Chien. Currently, she is starring as Madame Thénardier in the Les Misérables World Tour Spectacular.

In another report, Lea Salonga spoke candidly during a media call in Parañaque City, about raising her transman son, highlighting that a parent’s duty is rooted in unconditional love. The theater legend shared that Nic’s transition has had a positive impact on his overall well-being. Despite the separation, Salonga remains optimistic, expressing gratitude for the continued care and support their child receives from both parents.
