Actress and fashion personality Heart Evangelista opened up about her deep love for animals, sharing that the rescued pets she has adopted feel like family to her.

The actress recently visited the shelter of the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), an organization she has supported as an ambassador since 2007. Her visit was featured in the pilot episode of her reality series Heart World, where she spent time interacting with several rescued dogs and cats under the group’s care.

"It's nice to come and just be here when you're sad because it's a give-and-take moment na you're sad, they're sad," Heart said.
"You need love, they need love."

During the visit, she played with the animals, gently petted them, and even read books to some of them. She also encouraged people to consider adopting shelter animals and giving them a permanent home.

Heart revealed that her advocacy is deeply personal. One of her most beloved pets is Panda, an aspin she rescued and welcomed into her home in 2015.

The actress also shared a story about rescuing a stray cat during a difficult time in her life.

"Napulot ko s'ya sa shooting range so naka-cage sila, in-abandon ng mom so I got all the kittens," she said. "In-adopt 'yung iba, tapos in-adopt ko 'yung isa."

For Heart, adopting animals carries special meaning because she treats them like her own children.

"Ako, wala akong anak pero feeling ko, may mga anak ako and that's priceless for me," she said.

Meanwhile, PAWS executive director Anna Cabrera confirmed that the actress’ compassion extends beyond public appearances.

"In person, si Heart is really genuine when it comes to animals," Anna said.

She recalled that during the Taal Volcano eruption, Heart even volunteered to help rescue animals affected by the disaster, despite the risks involved.

Heart continues to promote the message “Adopt, Don't Shop,” reminding the public that rescued animals can offer unconditional love when given proper care and protection.

During the visit, the actress was deeply touched by an elderly woman who spoke about mercy and purity, leaving a lasting impression on her.
