The newly minted Best Actress, who made history for her performance in the film “I’m Perfect,” recently opened up about the challenges of newfound fame and the derogatory remarks she has faced since her landmark win.
During a candid sit-down on the podcast “I-Listen with Kara David” on February 4, 2026, Krystel addressed the specific, hurtful terms used by some online trolls to target her condition.
Rather than engaging in a war of words, her response was simple: “God bless you.”

The actress, who lives with Down Syndrome, emphasized that retaliating would serve no purpose and could only detract from her professional focus.
“Never akong lumalaban sa ganu’n. Walang mangyayari. Walang mangyayari sa work sa akin,” Krystel shared.
Her steadfast refusal to be brought down by the opinions of others has further endeared her to a growing national fanbase.
While Krystel remains largely unaffected by the "bashers," her mother, Amy Go, admitted that hearing such terms directed at her daughter is deeply painful.
Amy expressed that while the natural instinct of a parent is to defend their child, she chooses to follow Krystel’s lead in practicing forgiveness.
“Masakit. Kasi siyempre meron naman talagang tawag sa kanila na dapat nilang gamitin. Pero ‘yun nga, kagaya ng sinasabi niya, na ‘God bless you’ na lang. Minsan masarap sabihin na, ‘Alam mo naman may karma tayo. Sana huwag dumating sa inyo ‘yun.’ Pero pangit, kaya huwag na lang. Yung ‘God bless you’ na lang,” Amy said.
The controversy surrounding Krystel’s win follows a career-defining performance in “I’m Perfect,” where she portrayed Jessica, a woman navigating the complexities of love and life.
The film also secured the Best Picture and Best Ensemble awards, solidifying its place as a triumph for inclusivity in Philippine cinema.
Krystel recalled the moment her name was called as Best Actress, besting established industry veterans.
“I was so happy. I did not expect it. Nilamig ‘yung kamay ko noon,” she said. For Go, the recognition is the culmination of a lifelong dream.
Her mother revealed that even as a young girl, Krystel would spend hours in front of the mirror practicing acting and modeling, proving that her talent was years in the making.
By focusing on her craft and maintaining a positive outlook, Krystel continues to break barriers, proving that her "Best Actress" title is not just a trophy, but a testament to her talent and character.
The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is a premier annual event managed by the MMDA, dedicated to celebrating local cinema across the Philippines. Spanning from Christmas Day through the first week of January, the festival creates a dedicated space for Filipino-made films. During this period, cinemas nationwide pause screenings of foreign blockbusters—except in specialty formats like IMAX and 4D—to ensure local storytellers take center stage during the holiday season.
In a related article last year, the results of the Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal, hosted at Dusit Thani Manila, have ignited a fierce debate across social media regarding the top acting honors. Newcomer Krystel Go made headlines by clinching the Best Actress award for her role in "I’mPerfect," an outcome that caught many industry observers by surprise. Supporters of Angelica Panganiban took to various platforms to voice their frustration, claiming the seasoned star deserved the win for her performance in the film "UnMarry." Despite missing out on the trophy, Panganiban maintained her signature wit during the event, jokingly mentioning her unused acceptance speech in a display of professional grace.
Still in MMFF related news last year, legendary actress Maricel Soriano made a grand appearance at the "Call Me Mother" premiere to stand by her close friend and colleague, Vice Ganda. Soriano delighted followers by uploading a snapshot featuring herself alongside Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis, capturing a rare moment between three generations of icons. The Diamond Star offered high praise for the acting prowess displayed by Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre, while also acknowledging Anne Curtis’s captivating screen presence. Social media users praised the veteran actress for her unwavering support, highlighting the deep-seated respect and camaraderie shared among the biggest names in Philippine show business.
