Padilla said she felt elated upon learning she would receive the honor and chose not to prepare a written speech, believing it would be more meaningful to speak from the heart. She intended to thank producers, directors, musicians, writers, fellow artists, and audiences who supported her journey through the years. Members of her family were also present that night, making the occasion even more significant for her.

However, Padilla revealed that things took an unexpected turn during the actual awarding. All Lifetime Achievement Award recipients were called onstage at the same time, but only three were present: Padilla and Lani Misalucha for live performance, and Frankie Asinero for classical music. After being handed their awards, the group waited, assuming they would be allowed to say a few words. Instead, a production staff member eventually signaled for them to leave the stage. Padilla recalled turning to Misalucha and saying, Wala ba man lang tayong speech?!” before they respectfully stepped down.

Ironically, Padilla said the only time she was able to deliver her acceptance speech was outside the ballroom when a vlogger asked for her reaction. She admitted that moment overwhelmed her emotionally, leaving her close to tears and still trying to process what had happened. She described the experience as shocking and embarrassing, especially since their families were present to witness what was supposed to be a proud milestone.

In her post, Padilla called on the Aliw Awards Foundation to improve how it honors recipients. She suggested preparing video presentations to explain why Lifetime Achievement Awardees are being recognized and to highlight their body of work. While she said she was familiar with the achievements of fellow honorees like Lani Misalucha, Gary Valenciano, and Jed Madela, she expressed interest in learning more about the contributions of other awardees such as Arturo Luis Pio and Frankie Asinero.

Padilla also pointed out the contrast in how other winners that evening were treated. She noted that several awardees were given time to speak, with some accommodated despite wardrobe issues or late arrivals. For her, what was missing in their segment was sincerity. She concluded her statement by saying, Instead of feeling honored, I was left feeling small as I walked off that stage.” Because of this, she decided to return the award, hoping the gesture would encourage better practices in the future.
