In the world of Philippine show business, the friendships formed during the 90s are often viewed with a heavy dose of nostalgia. However, even long-standing connections are not immune to friction.

During a guest appearance on "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," alongside her "Heart of Music" co-star Angel Guardian, the "King of Talk" did not shy away from asking Gladys the difficult question. How does she handle the tension between two women she considers close friends?

Gladys’ response was a masterclass in maturity and loyalty. Instead of fueling the fire or picking a side, she established a firm boundary. The actress explained that she cultivates individual relationships with her peers—whether it is Claudine, Angelu, Judy Ann Santos, or Carmi Martin.

"Ito 'yung mga kaibigan ko talaga dito sa business ng matagal na panahon," Gladys reflected. She elaborated that because she does not know the root cause of the misunderstanding, nor does she know where it will eventually lead, it would be unfair for her to intervene.

Ogie Diaz gets candid about keeping secrets; jokes he cannot do what Anjo Yllana did

"Kung ano man 'yung hindi nila pagkakaunawaan, kasi hindi ko alam ano pinagmulan nu'n, hindi ko alam kung ano rin 'yung dulo nu'n, kaya ang hirap po na pati du'n sasali ka. So hindi, hindi, hindi po ako sumasali pagdating po sa mga ganu'n," she stated, emphasizing that her bond with each woman stands on its own merits, regardless of their conflicts with one another.

The tension between Barretto and De Leon became public knowledge during a controversial moment at Gladys’ renewal of vows with her husband, Christopher Roxas.

At the event, Claudine candidly admitted to the press that while she was eager to work with Gladys and Judy Ann Santos again, she was not open to working with Angelu. The statement went viral, sparking rumors of a deep-seated grudge.

However, the story does not seem to be one of permanent animosity. In an April 2024 interview with talent manager Ogie Diaz, Claudine expressed regret over her public outburst, admitting she shouldn't have said it.

Similarly, when Angelu visited Boy Abunda’s show in August 2024, she took the high road. When asked if they had reconciled, Angelu admitted they hadn’t had the chance yet, but she remains hopeful.

"Wala pang pagkakataon pero umaasa pa rin ako na darating 'yung panahon na 'yon," she said.

For now, Gladys Reyes remains the bridge—or perhaps theSwitzerland—of this 90s icons saga, proving that true friendship sometimes means knowing when to step back and let others fight their own battles.
