Pokwang, in a brief statement during GMA Network event “Signed For Stardom 2024,” revealed that she had her first taste of showbiz with the said network.

It can be recalled that the TV host and actress-comedienne was one of the Sparkle artists to renew their contract with the network’s talent management agency.

After she was called on stage, Pokwang expressed her gratitude to Sparkle GMA Artist Center and GMA executives who opened opportunities for her.

She then recalled her first taste of showbiz was with GMA and was a “kontesera” in one of the shows being aired on the network.

“This is where I first performed…I was a kontesera—not pageants, of course—but dance contests, like the one for ‘Lunch Date’,” Pokwang revealed during the event.

The TV host and actress-comedienne then revealed her goal back then was to be a television dancer.

“Being a television dancer was my goal back then,” the TV host and actress-comedienne said.

She then broke into tears as she said that she prayed hard for the realization of her goal but she was given more than just what she prayed for.

“Di ko naman po akalain, diba yung nagdadasal talaga kayo, yung maliit na pinapanalangin mo, ibibigay sayo ni God ng mas malaki,” Pokwang said amid tears.

Marietta Subong, or Pokwang, is among the most well-loved comediennes in the industry. Her frank and motherly ways are always "patok" among Filipinos. She used to be with ABS-CBN but moved to GMA during the pandemic. Some of her popular movies are “Call Center,” “A Mother’s Story,” and “Edsa Woolworth.” She has two daughters, Mae and Malia. Her split with Lee O'Brian has caused a buzz on social media.

Recently, she took to social media to address some netizens who upload content about "sardinas." Such netizens then allegedly proceed to dislike the food and talk about it. Following this news, Pokwang expressed her honest thoughts about such contents.

About a week ago, Pokwang posted her greetings on social media for her eldest child, Ria Mae Subong, whe was celebrating her birthday at the time. The comedienne took to Instagram Stories to greet her beloved daughter. The celebrity mom wished Ria Mae a happy birthday and reiterated her love for her firstborn. Ria Mae also received a sweet greeting from her sister Malia’s IG page, @malia_tisayngmasa18.
