Dayanara Torres, a former Ms. Universe queen, recently shared on Instagram a tragic incident that befell some members of her family.

She said that the said incident, involving the sudden explosion of their pressure cooker, occurred in their own home.

Yari also said that the explosion caused first and second-degree burns to her mom Lela, Bela her sister, and Santiago her nephew.

“An accident involving a pressure cooker that exploded. My Santi of my life how strong you are, Lela and my sister Bella with 1st and 2nd grade burns. A nightmare from which they are still recovering,” Dayanara wrote in the caption.

They were immediately rushed to the hospital where they were pronounced out of danger.

In the video that Yari shared, one can see her family members with their arms and stomachs swathed in bandages because of the burns.

In her caption, the beauty queen praised the bravery and strength of her family members, adding they all now felt closer to God because of the incident.

“Santiago… No words can explain how much I admire you.. Two Saturdays ago our family lived a nightmare that today brings us closer to our God,” Yari wrote in her post.

She then thanked the Almighty and the medical personnel who aided her family members after the unfortunate incident.

“I NEED to thank my God for blessing us with the family we have... for each of the nurses and nurses, doctors and surgeons at @hcafloridakendallhospital The rescue team, paramedics, who especially took care of my nephew and my mother,” she added.
“But especially the nurses at the Burn & Reconstructive Center & Child Specialist ARIANA ♀️ you are an Angel, what a blessing is to know you & to know you walk freely among us You were there every single day making sure Santi felt Loved , Cared for and even make him Smile through out these tough times...,” the beauty queen further wrote.

She also admitted being touched by the gesture of her nephew, Santiago, who opted to pray to St. Lazarus, the patron saint of the poor and the sick, by way of celebrating his 14th birthday.

“Santi, that you want to spend your birthday praying to Saint Lazarus has filled us with more admiration... Happy Birthday my Sati You are my hero, my champion, my teacher! I love you forever... #Happy14th,” Yari told her nephew.

Near the end of her post, Yari revealed their family is on their way to recovery because of people who donated their skin. She called for others to consider donating their skin so future patients like her family could also be saved.

“If you never thought of being a donor... I hope you reconsider... Donating saves lives... The donated skin (graft) has saved & healed my family. Blessed the souls of each and everyone of you ️,” Dayanara said.

Yari is close to the hearts of Filipinos after staying in the Philippines for several years where she landed roles in films and TV shows, as well as endorsed several products while living in the country.

Dayanara Torres is a Puerto Rican actress, singer-model, and beauty queen who was crowned Miss Universe in 1993. After the pageant, she accepted various movie roles in the Philippines and also became part of various TV shows in the country. She lived in the Philippines for five years where she learned to speak Tagalog.

Last 2016, Dayanara returned to the Philippines to be among the judges of Miss Universe 2016. At the time, actor-turned-COO of Tourism Promotions Board Cesar Montano was very much aware of her comeback. Dayanara who won Miss Universe in 1993 was Cesar's leading lady in the 1999 movie "Type Kita, Walang Kokontra" under Star Cinema.

After the 2016 pageant, she extended her stay in the country. Yari guested on "It's Showtime!" and gave a short dance number with Vhong Navarro. They danced to 'Ragamuffin Girl', which was a part of her performance in 'ASAP' a day before.
