David Licauco, in a recent ambush interview, answered the question regarding fans who allegedly wanted Jak Roberto and Barbie Forteza to split in favor of the “Maria Clara at Ibarra” actor.

Barbie and David portray the roles of Maria Clara “Klay” Infantes and Fidel de los Reyes, respectively, who became very close friends, almost to the point of being lovers, in the series.

Apparently, their love team appealed greatly to viewing audiences and soon, they were referred to as FiLay, with many thinking they are romantically involved on and off the screen.

Other fans, however, who knew about Jak Roberto as the real boyfriend of Barbie, seemed bent on seeing the two break up in favor of David.

“Ano ang masasabi mo sa mga fan ninyo ni Barbie na gustong mag-break si Jak at si Barbie para sa inyo, ano sagot mo?” a reporter asked David during the ambush interview.

David reiterated his earlier statements during a previous interview with actress Bea Alonzo.

“I think we all have to respect yung personal lives namin. Siyempre mahal niya si Jak Roberto, meron silang relationship before our loveteam, so we have to respect that,” David said.

“Pero siyempre maiintindihan mo rin naman ‘yung fans’ standpoint. Hindi natin sila masisisi kung pinupush nila kami kasi iyon ang happiness nila and I think we also have to respect that,” he added.

David also said that while he’s happy the fans love their portrayals of their respective characters, he doesn’t want them to bash Jak.

“Happy naman kaming nagpapasaya pero pinaka ayoko lang naman ‘yung binabash si Jak,” the Maria Clara at Ibarra actor said.

“Nakikita ko ‘yung mga hate, although I truly appreciate the support talaga and ‘yon na nga, sabi ko, happiness nila ‘yon. Wala naman akong magagawa don at saka gusto ko masaya sila, pero spread positivity na lang siguro,” David concluded during the interview.

David Licauco is a Pinoy model, actor, and businessman. He rose to fame when he took on the role of Fidel in the GMA series, "Maria Clara at Ibarra."

In his previous interview with Bea Alonzo for the latter’s vlog, the actress asked David if he was willing to undergo a lie detector test, to which he agreed. One of the questions was if he thinks Jak Roberto, the real-life sweetheart of Barbie Forteza, is jealous of him. He was then asked another question that made the lie detector machine beep, indicating that his answer could be a lie.

The actor also previously talked about the tragic incident that caused him to withdraw from his career as a basketball player. He reminisced on how his best friend died just after saving him. Because of this, David considers his life now as his second, and he’s starting to understand why things happen.
