Inquirer stands firm on report following Maine Mendoza’s “fake news” tweet: "this is backed by documents"

Inquirer.net initially reported that Arjo Atayde and Maine Mendoza will be traveling to Switzerland, Italy, and Greece days after their wedding.

In the said report, they also claimed that it's part of Arjo's official trip as vice chairperson of the House special committee on the creative industry and performing arts.

However, Maine took to Twitter to refute this.

She then wrote, "Huh? Fake news na naman. This seems to be written by an uninformed and privy writer. The headline is misleading and FALSE. Arjo will go to Locarno as his film is part of the Locarno film fest. Our PERSONAL trip after that is at PERSONAL expense.. out of our OWN pockets."

Despite the actress' claims, Inquirer.net stands firmly by its report. The news site stated that the story is supported by documents and information from "highly-placed sources."

On the other hand, the site did not disclose the identity of these sources.

Maine rose to prominence after her Dubsmash videos went viral, which helped her land a role as Yaya Dub in the country’s longest-running noontime show, "Eat Bulaga." She eventually landed roles in various movies and TV series, with one of them helping her win Best Supporting Actress during the 41st Metro Manila Film Festival. The actress is now married to actor-politician Arjo Atayde.

Earlier, in one of the episodes of "E.A.T.," TVJ gave their messages to the newlyweds Maine Mendoza and Arjo Atayde. Ninong Vic congratulated the couple, and simply said, "Congratulations." On the other hand, Ninong Tito wished for Arjo and Maine to have a really blessed family. As for Ninong Joey, who is always feisty, he reiterated his tweet about people saying that Maine and Arjo must not have gotten married because of the typhoon.

KAMI also previously reported that showbiz reporter Ogie Diaz jokingly encouraged Maine and Arjo to ask for a tip from him on how to make a baby. It can be recalled that Maine and Arjo tied the knot recently after being engaged for more than a year. In his socmed post showing him in a pic with Arjo and Maine, the showbiz reporter and talent manager extended his best wishes to the newlyweds.
