Joey de Leon recently took to social media to reminisce about how he created the name 'Eat Bulaga.'
His Instagram post, accompanied by his self-portrait, has gone viral instantly.
According to him, he suggested the name "Eat Bulaga" for their show in 1979.
He further stated that even though the name was embraced by their bosses back then, it took time for the public to warm up to it.

Little did he expect that, after 44 years, some people would one day fight over it to claim its ownership.
"Noong maisip, binuo at imungkahi ko ang pangalang “EAT BULAGA!” para sa aming palabas nung 1979, naramdaman kong kahit ito ang napili at tinanggap ng marami sa namumuno, matagal-tagal ding ninamnam ito hanggang sa tumining; wari bang isang aampunin na may kaibang tunog at kaiba sa paningin. Tila ba kailangan mong masanay lunukin. Aakalain ba nyong makalipas ang 44 na taon o halos LIMANG DEKADA, ang pangalang ito ay pag-aawayan, pag-aagawan at marami ang nais na umangkin," he wrote.

“Eat Bulaga” is the longest-running noontime program in the world. Its hosts, including Vic Sotto, Tito Sotto, Joey De Leon, Maine Mendoza, and others, announced last May 31 that they are separating from TAPE Inc., the company that produces the show. It is not yet clear as of this writing if the hosts will take the Eat Bulaga title with them to another network or if TAPE Inc. will keep the iconic name.

In a previous report by KAMI, Joey De Leon reposted the social media post made by his son Jako recently. In the said socmed post, Jako appeared to highlight the importance of a family. It can be recalled that Jako also posted his reaction online as regards the events that transpired on May 31. It was the day that Joey, along with Tito and Vic Sotto, severed their ties with TAPE, Inc., the producer of the popular noontime show, “Eat Bulaga."
Earlier, Jako also posted a message on social media about the issue of his father, Joey, and his friends Tito and Vic Sotto, with TAPE, the producer of Eat Bulaga. Jako said that principles, loyalty, honor, and virtue still matter. Furthermore, he told the new hosts to avoid shedding crocodile tears and fake sentiments towards “Eat Bulaga” and its fans. He explained that those new hosts should just do what they are paid to do.
