The 36-year-old star took to her Instagram stories to pen her heartfelt message to the late veteran actress, whom she called “Tita Cherie.”

Carla penned the message along with some photos of her with Cherie in New York.

Furthermore, Carla shared “I couldn't sleep last night because i was thinking of you.”

“So i looked for our photos and started reminiscing about the time we shared.”
“I then prayed for you and fell asleep. That's when i felt that you are at peace now. My faith tells me you are finally in God's loving arms.”

“Love you, Tita Cherie,” Carla ended.

Cherie Gil is a multi-awarded film and TV actress. She was best known for her role as Lavinia Arguelles in "Bituing Walang Ningning." Her brother is another award-winning actor, Michael De Mesa. Cherie was also aunt to Geoff Eigenmann, Carla Abellana's ex-boyfriend.

Cherie Gil’s very last post on Instagram is receiving new comments amidst heartbreaking news about her passing. The said post published on January 12, 2021 contains a photo of a beautiful painting made by artist Jack Salud. In its comment section, numerous netizens expressed sadness over Cherie’s demise and left their “RIP” comments.

Arnold Clavio shared on social media a clip from Cherie Gil's fun guesting on “Tonight with Arnold Clavio” in January 2019. In the clip posted by Arnold, Cherie recreated her iconic scene in “Bituing Walang Ningning”. She delivered her famous line from the hit 1986 film and then threw a glass of water across Arnold’s face.
