The Miss Universe Philippines 2021 title-holder’s gown created by Francis Libiran was inspired by the country’s indigenous tribal patterns called “Pintados”.
According to the acclaimed fashion designer’s page, the Visayan tribes had such tattoos whenever they went to war back in the old days.
The MUPH page likewise posted that the gown has “thousands of crystals carefully hand-sewn onto the piece”. It also “represents hope and unparalleled beauty, culture, history and traditions of the Philippines.”
