Former Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach recently admitted in her first TED talk that she went through many things when she won the international beauty title.
She was chosen to be the next Miss Universe in 2015 and at the same time, gained the distinction of being only the third Filipina to hold the title.

However, unbeknownst to many, she went through a lot of things that people wouldn’t expect that a beauty queen would experience.
“Maybe from afar it did look perfect, but the reality was far from it. What happens is when you win Miss Universe, you're usually given a psychiatrist because you need that. When your life is suddenly changed overnight, you need help,” Pia said.

She also revealed that she was diagnosed with a generalized anxiety disorder and suffered major depression.
The former Ms. U said she was unable to admit her condition at that time and at the same time, she was careful not to give any indication to the public about what she was going through.
It can be recalled that Pia, along with her family, especially her sister, became the front pages of newspapers due to the accusations that were thrown by the latter.

Thankfully, after some time, Pia and her sister may have patched things up already.
Pia admitted she tried to drown her misery in alcohol and there were also times that she tried hurting herself.
The beauty queen said she also experienced anorexia in those days.
Anorexia is an eating disorder where patients intentionally avoid eating.
“I had unhealthy coping habits. Plural. And I'll say it straight up. I became anorexic. I was self-harming. I was pulling my hair, a condition called trichotillomania. And in the four corners of my room I also abused alcohol,” Pia revealed.
She was thankful that the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) was on hand to help her.
They brought her to professionals and experts who helped the beauty queen piece herself together again.
Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, more popularly known as Pia Wurtzbach or Pia Romero, is a Filipino-German actress, model, and Miss Universe 2015 titleholder. She is one of the four Filipinas to earn the title.
The beauty queen previously shared a couple of stunning photos of her wearing her Mouwad tiara. The said tiara, also called as ‘Universal Power’ tiara, is given to Miss Universe title-holders to remind them of their reign. In the caption, the Miss Universe 2015 also expressed that she is rooting for Beatrice Luigi Gomez to win the Miss Universe 2021 crown. Netizens then praised Pia for showing her support to the country’s bet.
She also uploaded a video on social media showing her holding on to whatever she can on the foredeck of a boat for fear of falling into the sea because of the huge waves slamming into the vessel. Pia was enjoying a cruise of the seas near Cape Town that day with several other women on board the boat. Perhaps due to its speed or because of the huge waves, the ship swayed violently side to side, threatening to throw the models, including Pia, into the sea.
