Kakai Bautista has explained why she chose to defend Apple David and Chad Gammad despite the criticism surrounding their relationship.

During an episode of GMA’s “Kalurks!” aired on September 27, Kakai opened up about the backlash she received after expressing support for the couple.

Apple and Chad have faced criticism because of their 15-year age gap. Apple is 33, while Chad is 18. The courtside reporter previously confirmed that they were dating and denied allegations that she had groomed the basketball player.

Kakai said some people also began directing harsh labels at her after she defended the relationship.

“Ang sinasabi nila sa akin, ano daw ako, parang pa f.w. fame,” she recalled.

Instead of simply relying on what she saw online, the comedian said she decided to contact Apple herself.

According to Kakai, she wanted to understand what really happened before continuing to speak about the issue.

“Can I talk to you? Can you give me your number? I reached out to her,” she shared.

She said Apple agreed to speak with her and explain her side.

“Sabi niya, ‘Thank you, Miss Kakai. Sige, mag-usap tayo.’ Anong kuwento mo? Anong nangyari? Ganito, ganyan. So nalaman ko yung totoo,” Kakai continued.

The actress said that after hearing Apple’s account, she felt she had more information about the situation than people who were only reacting to what they saw online.

Kakai previously shared that Apple told her Chad was the one who pursued the courtside reporter. She also said the two reportedly met when the basketball player was already 18 years old.

Because of this, Kakai questioned some of the accusations being thrown at the couple and at her.

Addressing critics, she said, “Punta kayo ng DSWD. Kausapin niyo yung nanay.”

She then stressed why she was confident in defending the pair.

“Ganun lang sinasabi ko kasi wala kayong alam. Ako, alam ko,” she said.

In an earlier interview, Kakai also questioned what she described as a double standard when it comes to relationships involving an older woman and a younger man. She maintained that she was supporting what she believed was the couple’s happiness after learning their side.

Apple, meanwhile, has repeatedly denied the grόoming allegations. Chad has also publicly defended his girlfriend against negative comments about their relationship.
