Julie Anne San Jose became emotional as she recalled her late friend and former Sugarpop groupmate Vanessa Rangadhol during an interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Friday, September 11.

Host Boy Abunda asked Julie Anne what song she would dedicate to Vanessa, who died at the age of 30 following an accident in Manila. Julie Anne chose “Mahal Kita,” a song that Sugarpop had previously performed as a group.

Explaining why she chose the song, Julie Anne recalled their version of the track and its connection to their group. She said, “Siguro, Tito Boy, this was a theme song na kinanta ng Sugarpop, namin. We had a rendition of ‘Mahal Kita.’ This was originally sung by Ms. Maricris Garcia.”

Boy then reflected on how Vanessa's passing serves as a reminder of many things in life. Julie Anne agreed, sharing the realization she took from the loss.

“Alam mo 'yun, mare-realize mo talagang maikli ang buhay, kaya talagang make the most out of it,” Julie Anne said.

Boy emphasized the importance of cherishing every moment, to which Julie Anne agreed.

“Bawat sandali, Tito Boy,” she said.

In the same interview, Julie Anne shared that Vanessa’s passing still feels surreal, particularly because they had been making plans for a reunion before her friend’s expected wedding. She reflected on how Vanessa had been preparing to enter a new chapter in her life with her partner when the tragic accident occurred.

Earlier, Julie Anne took to social media to mourn Vanessa’s passing. The singer shared a throwback photo with her former groupmate and admitted that she was still struggling to believe the heartbreaking news. Recalling the years they spent together, Julie Anne revealed that Sugarpop had been planning to reunite. According to information shared by Vanessa’s family, the former child singer died following an accident at the condominium where she was staying in Manila.
