Julie Anne San Jose opened up about the devastating loss of her friend and former Sugarpop groupmate Vanessa Blanca Rangadhol during an emotional interview on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” on GMA.

Julie Anne admitted that she initially struggled to believe that Vanessa was gone and said that, even now, she still has difficulty accepting what happened.

“Noong una, hindi ako makapaniwala. Actually, up until now, hindi ako makapaniwala. It was so surreal,” Julie Anne said.

The singer then recalled that she and Vanessa had been looking forward to seeing each other again. The former Sugarpop members had been planning a reunion, making Vanessa’s sudden passing even more difficult for Julie Anne to process.

“And then, we were planning for a reunion sana, kasi nga, she was supposed to get married,” she recalled.

Vanessa was reportedly preparing to enter a new stage of her life, with marriage on the horizon. For Julie Anne, the tragedy was especially heartbreaking because Vanessa had been at a point where she was supposed to begin building a new life alongside her partner.

“Alam mo ’yung kung kailan gusto mong mag-settle, ito na ’yung panibago mong buhay,” Julie Anne said.

She struggled to put into words the thought of Vanessa preparing for marriage and a future with her partner only for that future to be suddenly cut short.

“You [were supposed to] make a new life with your partner, pero like, my God, hindi ko ma-imagine…” she continued.

The loss ultimately led Julie Anne to reflect on the fragility and unpredictability of life. Vanessa’s sudden passing served as a painful reminder to her that plans for the future can change without warning.

“Talagang mare-realize mo na maikli ang buhay, kaya you have to make the most out of it,” she said.

Vanessa Blanca Rangadhol, who was known for the song “DOTA O Ako,” died at the age of 30 following an accident in Manila.

The news was confirmed by Vanessa’s cousin Ivy through a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 19. The announcement brought sadness to friends, former colleagues, fans and other people who knew the singer.

Vanessa and Julie Anne shared a history that went back to their years as members of Sugarpop, a girl group associated with their early careers. Their time together gave them memories that Julie Anne continued to treasure even after their paths developed in different directions.
