Tessa Prieto opened up about one of the most painful moments following the end of her marriage, revealing why news of her former husband Dennis Valdes’ engagement to his new partner left her heartbroken.

During Friday’s episode of Fast Talk With Boy Abunda, the socialite, television personality, and philanthropist candidly shared her feelings as she reflected on the public attention surrounding her ex-husband’s new relationship.
According to Tessa, she initially respected the couple’s decision to keep their relationship private.
“Nagalit ako kasi firstly, early this year, silang dalawa kasi naka-private account. Okay, fine. ‘Di ba? That’s your life. He moved to Coron.”

She explained that things changed in January when the two allegedly began making their relationship visible on social media.
“January, silang dalawa ha, nag-public post in their IG. So they have been collabing pictures together. Their dives in Maldives or nag-birthday niya, her 29th birthday in Baguio, then it was, you know, videos of them.”
Tessa admitted that people close to her tried to shield her from seeing the posts, but she eventually came across them herself.
“And for me, people are already shielding me not to show me. But of course, siyempre, I can see.”
She added that the public engagement announcement eventually triggered widespread media coverage.
“So, lately, and then, the announcement na ’yung ring.
“The problem with that nag-media frenzy kasi there’s a law you cannot screenshot from a private account. That’s an Anti-Privacy act. But since they’re public, hala lumabas na.”
However, she clarified that what hurt her most was not simply the engagement itself, but the repeated references to her in headlines covering the story.
“But the problem is, noong lumabas, it’s ‘Tessa Prieto’s ex-husband gets engaged.’ ‘Tessa Prieto’s ex-husband’s fiancé is this.’ Tessa Prieto this, Tessa Prieto that.”
She explained that the situation affected not only her but also those closest to her.
“It’s a shame for me and my mother. I lost my father, right? So my mother and her friends, my generation, and my children, and their cousins, and everything.”
Tessa further revealed another reason why the situation became emotionally difficult for her.
She recalled that during their marriage, Dennis had expressed a desire to live a private life away from public attention.
Because of that, she found it painful to later see the new relationship being openly shared online.
“Doon ako nasaktan kasi ‘di ba sabi niya, ‘I don’t want to have a public life or something.’ And kayo nagpa-public.”
Despite the emotional experience, Tessa shared that she has since found peace with what happened.
“But you know what, in the end, it’s a closure for me.”
While she acknowledged the pain brought about by the public attention, she also emphasized that she now views the experience as part of her healing journey.
