During her interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Thursday, July 30, host Boy Abunda noted that Mimiyuuuh is one of the country’s biggest fashion influencers before asking what makes fashion good or bad in showbiz, where celebrities have more freedom to experiment with their looks.
Mimiyuuuh said fashion, for her, is about expressing who she is and making herself feel better.
“Oh! Ako po, Tito Boy, ang fashion po kasi for me talaga is an expression of who you are. And if you're doing it just to please other people, I don't think that's fashion anymore. That's people-pleasing. So I think 'yun po talaga ang core ko. And for me, Tito Boy, ang fashion po talaga is escapism for myself. Kaya kapag po nalulungkot ako, Tito Boy, or parang gusto ko lang sumaya kahit papaano, nagde-dress up ako. Iba po 'yung power for me ng fashion talaga, Tito Boy.”

Boy agreed with her perspective and pointed out how people are often raised to consider the opinions of neighbors, friends and relatives when it comes to how they dress.
“Tama. At walang may pakialam doon sa pakiramdam mo kung ano ang iyong isinusuot. Pero Mimi, you have to realize na tayo, pinalaki din na ang kapitbahay may say, ang kaibigan may opinyon, ang kamag-anak may opinyon. Minsan ang mga mahal natin sa buhay, 'Ano ba naman ang suot mo? Saan ka ba pupunta?'”
Mimiyuuuh said she no longer lets such comments affect her after learning to accept herself, even recalling similar remarks from her mother.
“Wala. Parang feeling ko po kasi, Tito Boy, once you accept yourself, kahit anong sabihin ng ibang tao, wala na rin. Miski nga nanay ko: 'Bakit naman ganyan-ganyan 'nak ang suot mo? Konti na lang, kita na talaga si Junjun.' Ay, wala!”
Boy also talked about how unconventional fashion choices can lead to stereotypes and shared an experience of being criticized for wearing a trench coat during summer.
“At tsaka hindi, totoo 'yan. May mga idinidikit na stereotypes. 'Ayan na naman ang luka-luka. Baliw na naman. Nakita mo, naka-fuchsia.' You know, I had an experience kung saan I bumped into a friend. Summer na summer, naka-trench coat ako. Napakalaki ng problema niya dahil naiinitan siya.”
Mimiyuuuh agreed with Boy’s point, questioning why people feel the need to interfere with someone else’s clothing choices.
“Tama? Bakit ba kayo nangingialam? 'Yun kasi ang first talagang ano eh. Bakit ba kayo nangingialam kasi?”
The conversation later turned to the cost of being fashionable. Boy asked whether becoming a fashionista requires spending a lot of money.
“Ang problema kasi, when people impose on you na dapat ganito ka, dapat ito. Pero talking about fashion at pagiging fashionista—mahal ba?”
Mimiyuuuh said expensive clothes are not necessary to have good style, recalling her love for ukay-ukay when she was starting out. She added that even owning luxury pieces does not guarantee that someone will look fashionable.
“Tito Boy, sa totoo lang po talaga, hindi po talaga kailangan sobrang mahal for you to be a fashionista. Kasi nung nagsa-start po ako, talagang mahilig ako mag-ukay, Tito Boy. At tsaka ang dami ko po talagang kakilala na ang gaganda manamit, tapos puro ukay lang po talaga. So I feel like hindi mo talaga po kailangan ng mga mamahaling bagay for you to be fashionable. And aminin naman natin, Tito Boy, you can buy all the luxurious stuff in the world, pero when you wear it, parang, 'Ay, baduy pa rin.' 'Di ba? So parang you can't really buy style.”
Boy agreed that personal style goes beyond clothing itself, emphasizing the confidence and individuality needed to wear what one wants.
“It takes a lot of attitude, it takes a lot of character to be able to wear what you want,” Tito Boy remarked.
