Leyte 4th District Rep. Richard Gomez has addressed the dating rumors involving his daughter, Juliana Gomez, and professional basketball player Ricci Rivero, saying he has no objection if the two are seeing each other.

According to ABS-CBN News, the actor-turned-politician spoke briefly with members of the media during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 27, where he was asked about his daughter’s rumored relationship with Ricci.
Richard made it clear that he does not see an issue with Juliana spending time with the basketball player, noting that she is already old enough to make decisions about her personal life.
“Wala naman problem sa akin kung nagkikita silang dalawa, lumalabas sila. Alam mo Juliana is of age already and wala naman bawal.”

The comments came amid continued interest in Juliana and Ricci’s relationship, which has been the subject of dating rumors since 2025. The two were spotted together on several occasions, prompting speculation among netizens about the nature of their relationship.
Ricci was also seen supporting Juliana during the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, where she competed. Their public appearances together further fueled reports that the two had grown close.
Despite the speculation surrounding his daughter’s love life, Richard said his only request is for any man who intends to pursue Juliana to do so properly, particularly by visiting their home.
“Basta sinabi ko lang sa kanya nung una, pag manliligaw sa'yo yung lalaki, doon siya manligaw sa bahay.”
Richard also revealed that he was already familiar with Ricci as a basketball player before learning that the athlete was reportedly courting his daughter.
He recalled watching Ricci play during his time with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
“Nalaman ko na lang na may nanliligaw pala sa kanya na basketball player. Napapanood ko pa sila dati nung player pa sila sa UP.”
The actor-politician was then asked whether he had personally spoken with Ricci about his relationship with Juliana. Richard admitted that he had not had such a conversation with the basketball player.
Rather than focusing on whether he has spoken with Ricci, Richard emphasized that what matters most to him as a father is seeing his daughter happy.
“Hindi naman. Basta nakikita ko lang sila na masaya, okay na ako.”
