In a heartfelt social media post, the broadcaster and wife of veteran journalist Julius Babao opened up about the daily adjustments they have made to ensure the comfort and well-being of her mother, whom she lovingly calls “Mama Ching.”
Christine revealed that her mother, now 75 years old, experiences a condition known as sundowning, which commonly affects some people living with dementia.
“Dahil ang aking minamahal na si Mama Ching (75 years old) ay isang sundowner at maaga na ring natutulog (usually 6 p.m.), ilang buwan na rin kaming nagbago ng schedule sa pagsisimba. Tuwing Friday, tanghali na kami nagsisimba.”

Because of this, the family has changed their weekly routine over the past several months, choosing to attend Friday Mass at midday instead of later in the day.
Christine explained that dementia has also brought noticeable behavioral changes in her mother’s daily life.
“Dahil sa dementia, may mga behavioral changes din si Mama. Kapag papunta na ng hapon—minsan as early as 2 p.m.—nag-iiba na ang mood niya, lalo na kapag palubog na ang araw.”
She shared that as the afternoon progresses, especially toward sunset, her mother’s mood often changes, making that part of the day particularly challenging for both her and their family.
Despite those difficult moments, Christine happily revealed that one particular day became a welcome exception.
“Pero today is a good day. ❤️ Kahit 5 p.m. na, maganda pa rin ang mood niya.”
Her simple yet meaningful update reflected the joy that families caring for loved ones with dementia often experience when they are blessed with peaceful and stable moments.
Christine expressed her gratitude through a brief but heartfelt prayer.
“Thank You, Lord, for these small mercies. 🙏”
She also ended her message with a touching declaration of love for her mother.
“I love you, Mama. Very much. ❤️”
The broadcaster dated her post “July 24, 2026 | Friday,” documenting what she described as one of those precious days that brought comfort to their family.
To help raise awareness, Christine also included a brief explanation about sundowning.
According to her post, sundowning is “a state of increased confusion, agitation, anxiety, and restlessness that can happen in the late afternoon, evening, or throughout the night in people living with dementia.”
Her honest reflection resonated with many netizens, particularly those who are also caring for aging parents or family members living with dementia.
Supporters flooded the comments section with prayers for Mama Ching, wishing her continued comfort, peace, and many more good days with her family.
