Doug began by reflecting on the remarkable transformation he has witnessed since they first met more than 20 years ago.
“If anyone were to ask me what has changed most about Chesca from 20 years ago to now, this is what I would say.”
According to Doug, one of the greatest blessings of their marriage has been watching Chesca grow into a loving wife, a selfless mother, and a woman deeply devoted to her Christian faith.
“It’s been nothing short of amazing to witness her evolution from a driven, independent young woman into such a selfless mother, a supportive wife, and, most importantly, a woman who loves the Lord with all her heart.”
Despite being known for his imposing physique as a former athlete, Doug admitted that much of his emotional strength comes from having Chesca by his side.
“People often look at my stature and think of me as this big, strong guy, but they don’t realize how much strength and assurance I draw from having my wife by my side.”
He also shared that whenever he struggled spiritually, Chesca consistently encouraged him to strengthen his relationship with God.
“Whenever my faith in God felt like it needed work, Chesca was always there to pick me up and help me reconnect.”
Doug recalled one particular moment when he was overwhelmed by a major problem and found himself consumed by fear and worry.
Rather than panicking, Chesca calmly reminded him to place his trust in God.
“I remember a specific time when I was facing a huge problem—panicking and worrying in the heat of the moment. She looked at me calmly and said, ‘Honey, there’s a solution to this. It’s going to be okay. What is God teaching you right now?’”
For Doug, that simple question perfectly reflected the kind of partner Chesca has always been.
He described her as a supportive, trustworthy, and grounded wife who consistently encourages him rather than bringing him down.
“That is the kind of partner every husband prays for—a supportive, trusting, and grounded wife.”
