The television host made the revelation during her contract signing with an aesthetic and wellness brand in Quezon City on Thursday, July 2. According to a report by Inquirer.net, Pia reflected on the unexpected twists in her career, sharing how she eventually found her way back to television after initially thinking she had already retired.
Looking back, Pia said she had already begun stepping away from some of her television commitments years before the pandemic. In 2015, she resigned as the Chika Minute anchor of 24 Oras after serving in the role for 11 years. She was later succeeded by Iya Villania, with Pia explaining that she wanted to dedicate more time to raising her first child.
“As a matter of fact, this gig at Kada Umaga took me by surprise,” Pia told reporters, according to Inquirer.net. “A long time ago, I already resigned from Channel 7 as Chika Minute anchor. And that was because of my first child. I really wanted to spend more time with her.”

Following her departure from 24 Oras, Pia remained part of Eat Bulaga!, which became her only regular television project. However, when the noontime show shifted to a home-based production setup during the COVID-19 pandemic, she was no longer able to return. She later left Eat Bulaga! in 2021 for personal reasons.
Pia said that experience convinced her that her years in broadcasting had come to an end and that she would simply focus on spending time with her children.
“So, ang natira sa akin ay Eat Bulaga. But when the pandemic hit, parang naging home-based sila. Tapos n’ung hindi na ako nakabalik, I thought that was it. Retirement na ’to. I’ll just enjoy my children,” she said.
Her plans changed when Net25 offered her the opportunity to host its morning program Kada Umaga. Pia accepted the offer and joined the network later in 2021, saying she believed the unexpected opportunity was a sign that she still had a purpose in broadcasting.
“But then, ‘yun na nga. The offer from Net25 came to host Kada Umaga, a morning show from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Sabi ko parang may mission pa si God sa akin. So, I took it on,” she expressed.
Pia's experience reflects how an opportunity she never expected led her back to the industry she once thought she had left behind.
Pia Guanio-Mago was one of the regular hosts of the long-running noontime show Eat Bulaga!. She married her non-showbiz husband, Steve Mago, in October 2011. They have two children, Brooklyn and Scarlet. Pia was also previously in a relationship with fellow Eat Bulaga! host Vic Sotto. After their breakup, Vic entered into a relationship with and eventually married Pauleen Luna.
In 2023, Pia revealed in a social media post that she was among those eagerly awaiting the next chapter of Eat Bulaga!. In her post, Pia thanked everyone who had been part of Eat Bulaga! and expressed excitement about what lay ahead for the program.
Later that year, Pia paid her respects at the wake of veteran broadcaster Mike Enriquez. During her visit, the former Chika Minute host delivered an emotional tribute to her late colleague. In a video shared by GMA Public Affairs, Pia expressed her wish that they had more time to create memories together.
